Can I get a discount on the puppy?

To [Insert customer name here],
Thanks for your enquiry about a [breed name] puppy.
Unfortunately, it is not appropriate for us to offer discounts for [insert their reason here].
Not only would offering certain people discounts be unfair to our other customers, but the money you invest in your puppy goes towards helping us build a better, ethical breeding business and the costs associated with caring properly for our dogs.
A puppy is a huge commitment of your time and money – the initial fee is a small part of the overall cost compared to the other bills you’ll be responsible for as a dog owner – vet bills, grooming, transport, toys, crates, food, insurance, boarding and more.
These costs have the potential to lead to you being unable to care for the dog in the long-term. You would then be in the worst possible position, having to give up the dog that you’ve raised from a puppy and grew to love as a member of the family.
As a responsible breeder, it would be unfair to put you in that position and burden you with the potential for significant heartache. It would also be hugely unfair on the puppy, burdening them with the same heartache after falling in love with you and your family.
I trust that you understand my reasoning, and I very much invite you to contact me again when your financial position has improved.
Kind regards,

Can I have first pick of my puppy?

To [Insert customer name here],
Thanks for your enquiry about a [breed name] puppy.
Unfortunately, it is not appropriate for us to give first pick to any of our customers.
Not only would offering this be unfair to our other customers, but we also need to make sure our puppies are matched appropriately with the right owners, depending on their personalities, needs and requirements.
Kind regards,

I don’t need papers with my puppy. Can I pay less?

To [Insert customer name here],
Thanks for your enquiry about a [breed name] puppy.
As a responsible and ethical breeder, all of our puppies come with the necessary papers.
There’s a common misconception that dog owners only need papers if you are going to breed or enter competitions. This is not the case.
Without proper documentation, you have no way of ensuring the puppy comes from a healthy, well-bred line of dogs from a responsible breeder with good records. This is important in ensuring your dog grows up to be healthy and happy.
If you’re looking to save money in the short term by foregoing paperwork, you need to also consider the wider picture in terms of costs associated with purchasing a puppy – vet bills, grooming, transport, toys, crates, food, insurance, boarding and more.
If you feel like you’re not in a position to pay for the necessary paperwork, this has the potential to lead you being unable to care for the dog in the long-term. You would then be in the worst possible position, having to give up the dog that you’ve raised from a puppy and grew to love as a member of the family.
As a responsible breeder, it would be unfair to put you in that position.
I trust that you understand my reasoning and I very much invite you to contact again when your financial position has improved.
Kind regards,
